Director's Note
The words "high school play" are as loaded as any in the English language. Beyond the initial joy people feel as they remember being cast as Constable Warren in a production of Our Town or as Titiana in A Midsummer Night's Dream (or even the third spearman from the right in Julius Caesar), these words bring about the images of eager young actors working on their lines as they try to remember which way is upstage and the difference between stage right and stage left. Often, these words also conjure up pictures of actors standing on a stage too darkly lit, lights that never come on, sound cues that come on too soon, scenery that looks nothing like what it is supposed to represent, actors forgetting lines while the director whispers them from the wings, and an audience clapping at the end of the show more because they are relieved that it is over than because the show itself was fantastic. In short, the words "high school play" are too often synonymous with the words "bad Theatre." Well, fasten your seat belts folks, for the directors, cast, and crew make no apologies for the show you are about to see. The Worst Junior High School Play In the World not only celebrates all that is wrong with bad high school productions, but reminds us that without bad theatre, no one would know what is was that makes theatre good.
Enjoy the mayhem.
