Awards Galore at Heritage
Music Festival
LHS Sophomore Women's and Mixed Choirs competed against choirs from across the
United States in St. Louis on April 28, 2007 at the Heritage Music Festival.
Choirs that competed were from states as far away as New York, Virginia,
Indiana and Mississippi.
These groups received the following awards:
Blue Jay Sophomore Women's Choir: 2nd place in the Women's
Choir division and a Gold Award for a score of 90 or above
Blue Jay Sophomore Mixed Choir: 1st place in the Concert Choir
division and a Gold Award for a score of 90 or above.
Adjudicator's Award – this award is given to select choral groups with
an average score of 95 or higher. Sophomore Mixed was the only choir in the
festival to receive this award.
Outstanding Choral Group – Received the highest score of all choirs
participating in the festival.
Both choirs – Received the Choir
Sweepstakes Trophy. This award is given to the school that accumulates
the highest combined number of points.
Received an invitation to compete in the Festival of Gold competition in 2008
because of their outstanding performance and high scores from the judges.

Liberty Jazz Makes Some St.
Louis Blues
On April 14, 2007 jazz band students
from Liberty High School, South Valley JH, and Liberty JH attended the 12th
Annual St. Charles West Invitational Jazz Festival in St. Louis, MO. The
LHS jazz combo won 1st place, and the big band won 4th in their
respective divisions. The Junior High Jazz Band made their first ever
contest appearance and had a successful performance despite not placing in the
contest.

Jazz Bands take First at
Northwest Missouri State Jazz Fest
The LHS Jazz Band and Jazz Combo both
received 1st place in their division at the NWMSU Jazz Fest on Saturday, March
10, 2007. Twenty-five bands competed in this annual event in Maryville.
Liberty’s two groups had the highest scores of any jazz band that played
that day.
Steven Marquez received the distinction of “soloist of the day” in
class 5 big band, and Devin Cline earned “soloist of the day” in the
combo class.
Big Bands are full 18-piece groups (Benny Goodman style). Combos are small
3-7 member groups that focus on improvisation (Miles Davis style).
2007 Kansas City Metro
Middle/Junior High School Music Festival
The MCDA (Missouri Choral Director’s Association) Music Festival was held at
South Valley Junior High. Twenty choirs representing the Kansas City area
attended the event.

Grand Bands Land Honors
The LJH and SVJH orchestras gave fantastic performances at the Kansas City Metro
Middle School/Junior High Festival at Lee's Summit West last Friday. The
combined Concert Orchestras received a 1- Superior rating, and the combined
Symphonic Orchestras received a 1 Superior rating. Among all of the orchestras
who entered in the KC area, Liberty was one of the highest rated districts!
Directors: Tania Campbell, Michelle Davis Andra Lewin.
The 8th Grade Band from
Liberty Junior High and the Junior High Band from South Valley Junior High gave
an outstanding showing at the K.C. Metro Middle School/Junior High School Band
Festival at LeeUs Summit West on Saturday, March 3rd. Both bands received
RIS or Superior ratings from all three judges. The director at South
Valley Junior High is Mr. Shane Fuller and at Liberty Junior High, Mr.
Paul Warnex.
