Liberty Middles School Chess
Players Earn National Recognition
The Liberty Middle School Chess Team
earned a fourth place trophy in the unrated category of the 2007 U.S. National
High School chess tournament.
The team consisted of

Kenny Tran
Collin Wright
Mack Yi won an individual trophy for placing 24th in a field of 146 national
competitors.
Liberty Middle
School Students Earn State Chess Honors
The LMS chess teams competed in
their first state tournament this past weekend. Helen Alpern and Mack
Yi earned individual state medals. The seventh grade team (Sam Yu,
Salvador Rodriguez, Eric Luan, and Mack Yi) finished eighth in a field of
forty-eight teams, while the sixth grade team (Kenny Tran, Collin Wright,
and Helen Alpern) finished ninth in a field of twenty nine.
